In the Druids’ zodiac the raven is one of the animal guardians for “Ruis” i.e. November to December. The plant symbol of this month is elder. The raven can be seen as a provider of prophetic omens and oracles. The Celts used the bird in the practise of Ornithomancy, i.e. reading the action of birds as a way of foretelling the future.

In Norse mythology, two ravens, Huginn and Muninn, perched on shoulders of Odin who was one-eyed or sometimes portrayed as blind or blind-folded. The birds acted as his Mind and Memory.

Bran is the Irish for Raven.
