Handmade Stoneware

The horse was valued for its power and strength and is linked to the Celtic goddesses, Epona, Rhiannon and Macha, thus it is associated with both war and fertility. It was both a god-like figure and a servant.

The horse symbolises the ritual moon of June, the Planting Moon.

In the Druids’ zodiac the White horse is an animal guardian for “Duir”, June to July. The plant symbol for this month is the oak. The Black horse is an animal guardian for “Ruis”, November to December. The plant symbol for this month is the elder.

Kelpies are mischievous black water-horses from Scottish folklore. In Irish, Finn means fair, Fionn white and Dara oak.
