Lucinda’s inspiration comes from the spirit and the body that we temporarily occupy. It is the inner qualities of peace and clarity that she is most concerned with and this is reflected in the Fragments and the Serenity Collections. The emotions are drawn from experience in human relationships. There is a classical yet contemporary look to Lucinda’s figurative art, as there is great attention paid to detail in the expression on the faces and the contours of the body in the casts and torsos. Yet there is as much left for the observer’s imagination to create pause and allow a feeling to permeate. Lucinda uses hand building and press moulding techniques for all her artwork. Very fine white firing stoneware clay from Australia is used frequently, then for the background tiles she uses robust stoneware clay from Ireland. The use of unusual textures is part of Lucinda’s signature, the smooth surfaces achieved by using wet and dry sandpaper at the bisque stage. Most pieces are fired to stoneware temperatures.
