Meet the artist — Jean Tolkovsky

I produce one-off, thought provoking, figurative pieces, and see my work as illustration in clay. This current body of work was inspired by a visit to the Museum of Childhood. Through my 'toylike' figures I aim to convey thoughts, feelings or narratives, in a way that is not always obvious, and thus invites interpretation by the viewer. A visit to the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green was the inspiration for my current work. These doll like figures and ‘confused’ little creatures are often inspired by childhood memories or personal thoughts, sometimes referencing a story or nursery rhyme, which may provoke a sense of nostalgia.
