Description

The intense black of the Blackbird contrasts beautifully with the pinks of the Blossom, and is sitting at the very highest point of the branch where it can sing it’s heart out. The beak and eyes are delicately hand painted in the natural yellow tone of the bird, and the whole sculpture is boxed in a fine wood case.

The Blackbird is made in solid foundry bronze using the ancient method of lost wax casting. The design is finished by the art of patination where various acids are applied to the surface of the bronze and heat applied to create a deep rich brown patina.  The bird and foliage are delicately hand painted using artist's oils. Then bronze is then sealed with a special wax which further enhances the colour and protects the bronze for years to come.

Your beautiful Blackbird is beautifully presented in a wooden presentation box containing a signed certificate of authenticity. The bronze is engraved with the sculptor’s signature and limited edition number, matching the certificate enclosed.

About the artist

Michael Simpson

Meet the artist — Michael Simpson

Michael is fast becoming the leading wildlife sculptor of his generation. His work over the last 30 years has steadily become more collectable, and can be found both nationally and internationally. He was born and bred in “The Potteries” as the region of Stoke on Trent is affectionately called. He studied fine art at Staffordshire Polytechnic and had the good fortune to be there when the ceramic companies were at their strongest, producing leading designs and world class artists and sculptors. Michael’s flexibility is unusual. It is often the case that a sculptor can be talented designing animals but struggles with birds and even more so human form. He is genuinely able to work across all disciplines and in our experience this is a unique talent.
