Description

Perry creates his art exclusively on location, whether by day or night, focusing on detailed projects or series that explore specific techniques, subjects, or both. Some of these works are brief and self-contained, while others are more extensive and ongoing, with certain themes he has pursued since childhood. His passion for pure landscapes and fascination with History, Time, and Space have inspired him to travel widely across the UK and Europe in his well-known Mobile Studio, a Renault Traffic van he converted in the 1980s. A highly respected artist, his paintings are now increasingly sought after by collector

About the artist

Robert Perry

Meet the artist — Robert Perry

Robert’s work is characterized by its directness, a strong sense of colour and a quality of picture surface which he achieves through an intriguing synthesis of traditional and unorthodox techniques developing specialised equipment which enable him to work in all conditions, rain, snow, and sunshine, by day, at night or, by the light of lamps. Born in Brierley Hill, West Midlands, he studied at the Stourbridge College of Art before going on to Birmingham University. Robert is a landscape painter in the English tradition of Turner and Girtin, travelling and working throughout Britain and Europe, frequently seeking out locations of historic significance. The bulk of his work is devoted to the landscape of the West Midlands as he has strong roots firmly embedded in the Black Country, his birth place. He always paints on location so he can be completely involved within his work and achieve a direct response His restless and analytical eye has ranged from the urban-industrial landscape of the West Midlands, to the Spanish Sierra Nevada and the melancholy battlegrounds of the Somme, in each case attempting to capture the unique atmosphere and spirit of the place. Robert has always intensely drawn in order to find the right setting before he may take on board that location to paint. In response to his subject, he has constantly adapted and refined his drawing and painting techniques, using pen, pastel, charcoal, air- brush, spray guns, ink rollers and spattering to achieve the effects he requires.

What is the difference between an original painting and an art print?

This section aims to clarify what makes something an original artwork and answer some common questions relating to digital art prints.

Original paintings
One of a kind

Original paintings

An original painting is a unique, one-off piece of art created directly by the artist themselves; consequently, once it sells, that exact piece cannot be purchased again.

Painting mediums

Painting mediums

There are many different materials that an artist may use to create an original artwork, including oils, acrylics, watercolour, gouache and mixed media.

Colour and technique

Colour and technique

The subtleties and depth of colour are clearly evident. It is easier to comprehend the technique the artist has employed by direct observation.

Surface texture

Surface texture

The actual painted surface is clearly visible, such as texture and any expressive brush strokes and mark-making.

Collector value

Collector value

For customers who want the artist’s true original piece. However, even after purchase, the artist still owns the intellectual copyright.

Art prints
Reproduction

Art prints

An art print is created by a digital printing process in which the artist's original artwork is scanned and an inkjet printer then recreates the image by printing it onto paper or canvas.

Open editions

Open editions

Open edition prints are reproductions of an artwork or photograph with no set limit on the number of copies that can be produced.

Limited editions

Limited editions

Limited edition prints are high quality reproductions of an original artwork produced in a strictly capped, fixed quantity.

Artist enhanced

Artist enhanced

Artist enhanced prints (hand-embellished) are reproductions that the artist has altered after printing, usually using paint or gel mediums, to give the visual effect of the original artwork.

Hand signed

Hand signed

Hand signed prints are individually signed by the artist, usually in the margin below the image, ensuring it meets the artist's approval and increases its authenticity and collectability.
